Blackjack Game Rules

Blackjack or twenty-one or Vingt-en-Un is one of the best known card games in the world. The prototype of the game appeared in the 17-th century in France, although there are many controversies around this question. Its name "Blackjack" it has got from the hand of cards an Ace and a Jack of spades.

It became very popular when it was first introduced in the USA and continued to become more and more popular each day not only in land based casinos, but also in online casinos: many strategies exist today which help to beat blackjack.

How to Play Blackjack

  • The Aim of the game is to beat the dealer by picking up 21 or the hand of cards as close to it as it is possible, without exceeding 21.
  • The dealer is your only opponent, despite of any number of players at the table.
  • Card values are the following: an Ace - 1 or 11, Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) - 10, 2-s-10-s according to their values.
  • Blackjack is a highest hand, consisting of an Ace and 10 or any of Face cards.
  • Before starting the game place your bet on the table.
  • The player gats two face up cards and the dealer one card face up and the other one face down.
  • Each player according to their turn says whether he/she stays or takes additional cards.

Betting in Blackjack

1. Hit or Draw. Taking a card option. If you need one more card you should tap the table with fingers to make a signal that you want to draw.

2. Stay or Stand. If you don't need more cards and are satisfied with you hand value you stand. It is required to wave a croupier to signify about your decision.

3. Double. An option giving player an opportunity to double the initial wager and then he/she can hit one card only.

4. Split. Option of splitting two initial cards with the further separate play. One more condition is that card must be of a same value.

5. Insurance. It is possible when a dealer has an Ace or any card that gives him possibility to have a blackjack.

6. Surrender. It is offered in some casinos on the first two cards.

Blackjack Strategies

  • Never split 4s, 5s and Face cards.
  • Don't take insurance or even money.
  • Memorize basic strategies and use them in practice.
  • If your hand is between 13 and 16, and a croupier has 6 or lower card you should stay.
